Corps Project Protecting PLANTATION ESTATES and others on the West side of the Harvey Canal - February 4, 2010
What: The Corps will host a public meeting to discuss proposed refinements to the plans to construct the Harvey to Westwego Levee as they are described in Individual Environmental Report 14.a. The proposed changes include a flood side shift of an earthen levee into the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park. There are also proposed revisions to construction of fronting protection and floodwall alignments at the Ames and Mt. Kennedy Pumping Stations. This levee is on the west side of the Harvey canal south of the sector gate near Lapalco. This levee is the primary defense for surges flowing up the canal for the next 3-4 years; it will then become a secondary defense. The construction work described in this meeting will be the last effort to obtain final design. The levee is shown in the link below. The area is in PE's back yard. When: Thursday, Feb 4, 2010 Open house 6-6:30 pm; Presentation and discussion 6:30 pm Where: Visitation of Our Lady School. |
